Residential Lock Repair and Installation

Diagnose binding keys, failed latches, misaligned deadbolts and worn hardware; repair serviceable components or install compatible replacement and smart locks.

Call first with the failure. Photos or video of both sides, the door edge and strike may be requested after the initial conversation.

Diagnose before replacing

A lock problem may actually be a door, key or latch problem

The entire path from key to cylinder to latch to strike should be checked before replacing hardware.

Mechanical foundation for electronic locks

Smart locks still depend on good mechanical operation

Electronics cannot reliably drive a bolt that is binding against the frame.

Before installing a smart lock

  • Confirm door thickness, backset and bore preparation
  • Check handing and latch orientation
  • Make sure the deadbolt extends freely with the door closed
  • Correct strike alignment and excessive weather-seal pressure
  • Verify the supplied lock includes every adapter and mounting part
  • Use fresh recommended batteries and complete calibration
  • Transfer account ownership and remove former users when replacing an existing smart lock

A motor should not be used to force a misaligned deadbolt.

Binding shortens battery life, causes false jam warnings and can leave the door unsecured. Mechanical alignment should be corrected first.

Clear answers

Questions customers ask before booking

Can you repair a lock that is hard to turn?

Often, after checking the key, cylinder, latch, deadbolt, strike, hinges and door alignment. Lubrication alone is not always the solution.

Can you install a customer-supplied smart lock?

Yes when the lock is compatible with the door preparation, backset, thickness, handing and latch alignment. Missing parts, account setup or manufacturer defects can affect the job.

What kind of lubricant should be used in a lock?

Use a lock-appropriate dry or manufacturer-approved lubricant rather than heavy oil that attracts dirt. A binding door or damaged cylinder still needs mechanical correction.

Can you replace only a deadbolt and keep the same key?

Sometimes, if the new cylinder is compatible with the existing keyway and can be rekeyed accordingly.

Do you repair doors?

Lock-side hardware, latches, strikes and minor alignment within locksmith scope can be addressed. Structural door/frame, major hinge, rot, glass or carpentry work may require another trade.
