Authorization protects the occupant and property owner
Residential entry and rekeying are security-sensitive. Depending on the situation, authorization may be shown through photo identification, a lease, property records, a manager’s confirmation or documents retrieved after an emergency entry. A person standing at a door is not automatically entitled to have it opened or changed.
Do not force a stiff key or deadbolt.
A bent key or broken tip can turn an alignment or maintenance problem into an extraction and cylinder repair. Stop when unusual force is required and call first; a photo may be requested or video of the behavior.
